Epi Kardia Christian Literature-based Homeschool Curriculum Using Charlotte Mason Methods

About Us

Greetings!

I'm Dana Wilson, the owner and one of the authors of Train up a Child Publishing™LLC/Epi Kardia Curricula.  A former homeschooling mom whopicture of Dana Wilson, author and owner of Train up a Child Publishing/Epi Kardia happily homeschooled our kids from kindergarten through high school, I now love to help other moms do the same!  My primary passion is to help Christian parents intentionally disciple their children and teach them to live biblically ~ something I am always trying to do better myself!

Cameron and I have been married almost thirty years and have two children, Aliece and Michael, who have graduated from homeschooling and are currently enrolled at the Medical University of South Carolina and at Clemson, respectively. (Go Tigers!)

You can see many pictures of Aliece and Michael at various ages on the website. :-)  This is one of my favorites. Homeschooling has allowed them to become and remain close friends, as well as brother and sister.

One of the first things I learned about homeschooling was that the way I thought I was supposed to teach wasn't the way my children learned

It was quite a shock.

After a few years of exploration, we found that a modified Charlotte Mason approach worked wonderfully for all of us! It was natural, flexible, focused on a biblical worldview, used the highest quality literature, and it was MUCH easier to teach and more engaging than the other methods we tried.

Additionally, I have always been a student of learning styles and multiple intelligences, reading widely about those subjects and incorporating the results into our literature-based homeschooling curricula.

Before children, I served as a Human Resource Director for a national non-profit in the Washington, D.C. area and at a national homebuilding firm, as a counselor/director of a transitional facility for alcoholics and offenders, and an educator of both children and adults.

To learn about how this company began, please continue reading, and while you are visiting today, feel free to peruse our blog. In fact, if you could use two free classic, well-loved poetry e-books, you might consider joining our mailing list!

In addition to your two free e-books, you will receive approximately weekly emails chock full of homeschooling support, Christian parenting suggestions, free lesson plans and even the occasional discount coupon.

How our Christian Literature-based Homeschooling Curricula Company Began...

Beth Hempton and Kara Murphy were the original authors and founders of Epi Kardia in 2001. After a short time, Kara left the fledgling company to focus on her growing family. Just two years later in 2003, I joined Beth and we became Epi Kardia Home Education, LLC.

We gradually added new literature-based homeschooling curricula over the years, such as our Daily Lesson Plans and High School courses, to the original Unit Program curricula.

Feeling the Lord drawing her back to just teaching and writing, Beth discontinued her role in the company at the end of 2009, although she continues to remain in close touch. Beth now teaches both online and local classes in the Charleston, SC area, using our curricula where appropriate.

At the beginning of 2010 Epi Kardia officially became Train up a Child Publishing™ LLC. Although our mission is still helping parents raise godly and well-educated generations, we feel the new name is easier to remember (and pronounce!) and will be recognized as a biblical phrase by Christian parents familiar with Proverbs 22:6:

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it."
