Epi Kardia Literature-based Unit Study Home School Curricula

About Epi Kardia

Epi Kardia came about when likeminded home school moms brainstormed "the ideal curriculum," longing for quality material that embodied their families' values and a Biblical worldview with an emphasis on academics and higher level thinking. With their husbands' support and realizing the great weaknesses in their own education, despite all being college degreed, they chose to write curriculum that would prevent their children from being in the same positions as adults. Little did they realize how much they would learn in the process as God led them and continues to lead them on this educational journey. Above and beyond curriculum, the parents determined that their greatest roles should be to disciple their children and give them valuable instruction glorifying God.

The program has nine units covering all of history each year, using only real books. Every real book in the program has been read by one or more of the authors, unless specifically noted. Books were not put in the program on the basis of simply being "classics". The value of each book was based on a very specific criteria related to one or more of the following: literary content, specific historical and/or scientific concepts, graphics and design, and a Biblical perspective. All of the language arts (including phonics, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.), science, fine arts, copy work and more are pulled from the book selections. All of the books recommended for use can be found at the library or purchased in both paperback and/or hardback, new and/or used. Many of the books are familiar to homeschoolers; however, a few precious gems have also been discovered!

"I'm still using Epi Kardia and LOVING it! I added one more student this year to the mix, A.! She and I do a more traditional Epi Kardia approach, whereas J. and G. know the drill and are on something like auto pilot with the program. Thank you for your dedication to writing such a fine curriculum.  My family have enjoyed it and been blessed by it time after time.  I still share it with everyone who will listen!"

-Jennifer, mom of 5, CT

"E. is in 4th grade right now and C. is in 1st grade.  I love being able to use Epi Kardia with both of them!  (And we'll be adding L. in kindergarten next year.)  What a blessing this curriculum has been and continues to be for us!  Thanks Dana and Beth!"

--Julie, mom of 5, SC

"I have 4 children and we are using all 4 levels of the program. Just another reason why I love this program! It is flexible enought for me to do just what want with it! :-) "

 --Pam, mom of 4, SC

"The kids and I just finished playing a '20th Century Trivia' board game that A. made after I saw it in the [Preparatory Complete Program] Epi Kardia curriculum. What a great idea! He had to come up with the idea, use history & geography to come up with the categories and then the questions, make the board, paint the board and then make up the rules. It was a great 2-week project!"

--Vicki, mom of 2, SC
