Essay Styles for High School:  This is an excellent English 1 option preparing students for writing essays in high school and college.  Any high schooler who hasn’t had an essay course or who needs a refresher would benefit.   Note that for full English credit, students will need to study literature outside of this course because it is not literature based.  Rather, this course is intensively focused on building competent composition skills. (Read more details about this class at the end of our What's New page.) This is a full year course.

American Literature for High School– This course can be a full English credit for any high school student. It is literature based using whole books rather than anthologies.  Students need to have studied the five basic essays or concurrently be in the essay course in order to take this class.  The reading level for this course is varied, but students need to be able to stay on top of the reading throughout the year. Books may be purchased for this course hereThis is a full year course.

Research Paper Writing – This class covers all of the steps to writing a research paper from topic selection to a final presentation.  It is recommended that college bound high school students write at least two research papers.  This course can be counted as part of an English credit for any high school year.  All high schoolers are welcome to take this course and  the writing requirements will be adjusted to the level of the student. It is one semester and will be offered the first semester of the school year. (Fall 2008)

Public Speaking:  This course is an essential for all high school students.  It involves writing the speeches as well as presenting them.  Students need to have studied the five basic essays or concurrently be in the essay course in order to take this class.  It is desirable preparation for anyone interested in debate, as well. Students will be videotaped throughout the course for evaluation purposes. This course is one semester and will be offered the second semester of the school year. (Spring 2009)

Read what one ho meschooling mom said about Elizabeth’s teaching:

I opened and read <your e-mail> while <my son> was sitting at my desk. You should have seen the smile on his face!!! He read what you said about giving him a hug on his work.  I know this is why I homeschool him. This really touched my heart! Thanks for your teaching style and patience. I really wish I would have met you years ago!!        Sharon, SC

"I'm still using Epi Kardia and LOVING it! I added one more student this year to the mix, A.! She and I do a more traditional Epi Kardia approach, whereas J. and G. know the drill and are on something like auto pilot with the program. Thank you for your dedication to writing such a fine curriculum.  My family have enjoyed it and been blessed by it time after time.  I still share it with everyone who will listen!"

-Jennifer, mom of 5, CT

"E. is in 4th grade right now and C. is in 1st grade.  I love being able to use Epi Kardia with both of them!  (And we'll be adding L. in kindergarten next year.)  What a blessing this curriculum has been and continues to be for us!  Thanks Dana and Beth!"

--Julie, mom of 5, SC

"I have 4 children and we are using all 4 levels of the program. Just another reason why I love this program! It is flexible enought for me to do just what want with it! :-) "

 --Pam, mom of 4, SC

"The kids and I just finished playing a '20th Century Trivia' board game that A. made after I saw it in the [Preparatory Complete Program] Epi Kardia curriculum. What a great idea! He had to come up with the idea, use history & geography to come up with the categories and then the questions, make the board, paint the board and then make up the rules. It was a great 2-week project!"

--Vicki, mom of 2, SC
