High School Level Language Arts Curriculum for Homeschool Students

British literature Christian curriculum for homeschoolersEpi Kardia's British Literature course incorporates literature, using whole, living works, as well as written assignments with the philosophy that solid writing skills are partially developed by examination of excellent models.

The sampling of British Literature includes:

  • two plays
  • multiple selections of poetry and one selection of epic poetry
  • several short stories
  • four novels

Additional novels are suggested to make this an Honors course option.

Projects and written assignments are relevant not only to the written works, but also to the writers and the times in which they live.

Writers include Shakespeare, Chaucer, Bronte, Austin, Wilde, Lewis and Dickens. Literary elements, themes and distinctive qualities related to British literature are examined with each reading selection. As well, students will complete various writing assignments incorporating selected essay writing styles.

"I'm still using Epi Kardia and LOVING it! I added one more student this year to the mix, A.! She and I do a more traditional Epi Kardia approach, whereas J. and G. know the drill and are on something like auto pilot with the program. Thank you for your dedication to writing such a fine curriculum.  My family have enjoyed it and been blessed by it time after time.  I still share it with everyone who will listen!"

"E. is in 4th grade right now and C. is in 1st grade.  I love being able to use Epi Kardia with both of them!  (And we'll be adding L. in kindergarten next year.)  What a blessing this curriculum has been and continues to be for us!  Thanks Dana and Beth!"

--Julie

"I have 4 children and we are using all 4 levels of the program. Just another reason why I love this program! It is flexible enought for me to do just what want with it! :-) "

"The kids and I just finished playing a '20th Century Trivia' board game that A. made after I saw it in the [Preparatory Complete Program] Epi Kardia curriculum. What a great idea! He had to come up with the idea, use history & geography to come up with the categories and then the questions, make the board, paint the board and then make up the rules. It was a great 2-week project!"

"I am using the American Literature [high school] curriculum for a co-op starting in August and am very pleased with it so far.  I have laid out weekly lesson plans for the group so that they are reading along at the same pace and know which assignments will be due when.  It is so clearly laid out and easy to use.  I love the notes on grading/assessing the assignments and the rubrics you have provided.  I want to order a few more things real soon, so really appreciate the coupon!!
Thanks!"
