Literature-based Unit Study Curriculum

Description and Samples

Many Epi Kardia unit study curriculum users over the years have requested we consider making daily lesson plans, and we have been listening!  Just as our Complete Program curriculum, the lesson plans are literature-based, unit study curriculum -- but we have done all of the planning and pulled together all of the assignments for you. These plans also integrate history with science, language arts, fine arts and projects, so there is no need to purchase curriculum for every subject separately.  Epi Kardia is used with whole books (not included) that are found in your public or church library or online.

Currently, daily lesson plans are offered for Kindergarten (Kindergarten Complete Program), and First, Third and Fourth Grades, as well as one level of Middle School.

Features of our Daily Lesson Plans include:

Themes and objectives listed for each subject, for each week.
Book, resources and supplies lists for each week.
Teacher's literature and science discussion questions provided.
Grammar lessons provided with teacher's key and notes.
Composition assignments, science, art and history projects provided.
Poetry reading and lessons provided in each unit.
Copy work, dictation and spelling assignments (K-5) included.
Period and classical music selections suggested as well as picture study included.
Map and timeline assignments in every unit.

Charts provided to help students learn to take notes.

Internet links added for extra research, enrichment activities, etc.

Comprehensive daily plans are worked out for you in advance, allowing you more time to teach!

"Over the past school year we have benefited from using the Epi Kardia daily lesson plans. We have thoroughly enjoyed each book that we read as we traveled through history; Epi Kardia truly made history come alive! In addition, the lesson plans have helped to keep us on schedule, given us hands-on projects, questions, and web sites to research, writing assignments to complete and worksheets to help organize information!  Thank you!

---Elizabeth, mom of 3

"I have a critique, and I hope you take this in the manner that it is meant – with honesty, etc. I am not sure you’re charging enough money for all you are providing (in the lesson plans). I am so very impressed with your products… Just wanted to thank you for all the work that you and your partner have put into them."

---Kathie, mom of 4

"[The daily lesson plans] have been so helpful to me. The structure really helps me and gives me confidence.  Thanks again for all the advice and support.  You have been such an encouragement to me."

---Joyce, mom of 5

"I'm still using Epi Kardia and LOVING it! I added one more student this year to the mix, A.! She and I do a more traditional Epi Kardia approach, whereas J. and G. know the drill and are on something like auto pilot with the program. Thank you for your dedication to writing such a fine curriculum.  My family have enjoyed it and been blessed by it time after time.  I still share it with everyone who will listen!"

-Jennifer, mom of 5, CT

"E. is in 4th grade right now and C. is in 1st grade.  I love being able to use Epi Kardia with both of them!  (And we'll be adding L. in kindergarten next year.)  What a blessing this curriculum has been and continues to be for us!  Thanks Dana and Beth!"

--Julie, mom of 5, SC

"I have 4 children and we are using all 4 levels of the program. Just another reason why I love this program! It is flexible enought for me to do just what want with it! :-) "

 --Pam, mom of 4, SC

"The kids and I just finished playing a '20th Century Trivia' board game that A. made after I saw it in the [Preparatory Complete Program] Epi Kardia curriculum. What a great idea! He had to come up with the idea, use history & geography to come up with the categories and then the questions, make the board, paint the board and then make up the rules. It was a great 2-week project!"

--Vicki, mom of 2, SC
