Homeschool Curriculum Overview and Descriptions
Written from a Christian worldview, Epi Kardia is
literature-based, homeschool curriculum using Charlotte Mason methods that is organized
chronologically into nine historical units integrating history, science, language arts and fine
arts.
Our curriculum methodology,
especially successful with younger students, applies the
study of history from Creation to Modern each
year.
Beginning again every year allows
students to:
-
move to fresh material more
quickly
-
stay more engaged
-
recall information learned
more easily, as it hasn't been years since it was
introduced
-
allows a layering effect to take place, making it easier to connect new knowledge to
already-learned information, which according to experts, is the way
we learn
The flow of history and connections between historical events become
clear as history is studied in this
relevant manner.
Using whole, living books and reading
exciting, well-written literature about characters to whom they can relate and emulate draws students into
historyin a way that textbooks
cannot!
We offer two curriculum
options...plus our high school courses...
1. Complete Programs -- our most cost-effective
option, Complete Programs can be used for
three years each following our
methodology. Using unit overviews, history, science and music/fine arts
booklists divided by topic, along with the suggested projects and activities, we
provide the tools enabling you to write your own lesson plans - or
not!

2. Daily Lesson Plans --
Do you love homeschooling (or want to
homeschool) but you know you are
nota planner,
are not very organized or you have a hard time following through? Our Daily Lesson Plans are perfect for the mom who wants to provide a high-quality, biblically-based education for her
children using whole, living books. For history, science, language arts and fine arts, all daily
lessons are already-planned-in-advance.
They include weekly goals and objectives for each subject and daily lessons planned integrating the studies
of history, science (K-8), language arts and projects.

High School Courses
In addition to our Complete Program for grades 9-12, Epi
Kardia also offers high school courses to homeschool and private school students by
subject. Our courses cover literature, history,
composition and speech.
All student assignments and teaching instructions are included within, along with special sections about how
to evaluate and grade each assignment.

Although primarily used in homeschool settings, Epi Kardia's innovative
methodology is also currently being utilized by private
Christian and Cottage schools.
Benefits of Epi Kardia
Homeschool Curriculum
-
Homeschool the way children
naturally learn - making homeschooling exciting and fun, rather than boring
and dry! Based on Charlotte Mason methodologies include reading whole, living books, short lessons, oral narration,
using copy work and dictation to teach grammar and
composition, and more.
-
Expose your children to superior children's literature without fear of
politically-correct, anti-Christian agendas. All books
listed in our biblically-based homeschool curriculum have been read and evaluated from an evangelical
Christian worldview by at least one of the authors.
-
Have time for the fun parts of homeschool, like art,
projects and field trips! By integrating the subjects of history,
science, language arts (including reading, grammar, composition, phonics, poetry, literature studies,
spelling, vocabulary) and fine arts, your homeschooling day is shorter and your children
stay more engaged! We incorporate art, music, nature study and projects
- the fun stuff!
-
Know you can teach to each of your children's strengths with
one curriculum. You are given plenty of activity and project ideas for each unit geared to YOUR child's
learning style.
-
You can relax knowing that Epi Kardia has curricula from Kindergarten
through 12th grade - instead of trying to learn a new method every couple of
years. Our biblically-based homeschooling curriculum is
available from Kindergarten through 12th
grade.
-
You don't have to be an expert in history to teach with our curricula - we
provide (in our Complete Programs)
overviews of each historical period . Provided in
our Complete Program components are historical overviews of each time period, written from a
Christian perspective, for teachers and/or older students.
-
-
Continue homeschooling through high school with
assurance. The 6th - 12th grade manual includes
helpful tips and information about those scary parts of teaching high school -- what courses are
required? How do I keep high school records? Will my students be able to get into
college? How in the world do I teach high school
writing? Should you choose our high school courses for
homeschool students, everything you need to teach and evaluate
your student is included.

Our Sample Teaching Schedule
Click to see a sample of
our suggested Epi Kardia schedule for one school year. Of course, we want to remind you
that ANY home school curriculum should be used as a tool to fit your family, schedule and teaching style. Feel
free to modify the schedule as needed!
How do some families modify our schedule?
- If your students love the Medieval period, feel free to spend
more time there. The next year, consider skipping or shortening the Medieval unit if you would like to spend
more time in another unit.
- As well, many Epi Kardia families just start the school year
where they left off the year before, preferring to move at their own pace.
- Many families are used to studying history in larger "chunks,"
simply studying three our units each year.
Epi Kardia can be used any way that fits
your family.
Also, remember that if you are teaching older students, especially
in high school, you may want to follow the two year schedule suggested in the Epi Kardia manuals
(or your own schedule!) to allow for more in depth study. To read more about scheduling and planning
courses for the high school student, go to Secondary Complete Program.
