Historically Structured, Literature-based Unit Study Curricula

for Kindergarten through High School

Epi Kardia  (ep'  e  kär  de'    u)   is historically structured, literature-based, unit study curricula covering Creation through Modern periods. Our methodology, especially successful with younger students, applies the study of history from Creation to Modern each year. Beginning again every year allows younger students to move to fresh material more quickly, stay more engaged, and therefore recall information learned more easily, allowing a layering effect to take place. The flow of history and connections between historical events become clear as history is studied in this relevant manner. Reading exciting, well-written literature characters to whom they can relate and emulate draws students into history in a way that textbooks cannot!

All books listed in the curricula have been read and evaluated from an evangelical Christian worldview by at least one of the authors
Epi Kardia's methodology integrates the subjects of history, science, language arts (including grammar, composition, phonics, poetry and spelling) and fine arts
Activities, books and projects recommended for each learning style
Available from Kindergarten through 12th grade
Additionally provided in our Complete Program components, pictured below, are historical overviews of each time period for teachers and older students, as well as a customizable CD with teaching tools and helpful forms
The 100+ page teacher's manuals include extensive information about teaching covered subjects as well as curricula related material. The 6th-12th grade manual includes an extensive section regarding teaching high school writing.

What Does "Epi Kardia" Mean?

The Greek words "Epi Kardia" mean at the heart. At Epi Kardia, we feel the heart of home education is the Christ-centered mentoring and discipling relationship between parents and their children.

"I'm still using Epi Kardia and LOVING it! I added one more student this year to the mix, A.! She and I do a more traditional Epi Kardia approach, whereas J. and G. know the drill and are on something like auto pilot with the program. Thank you for your dedication to writing such a fine curriculum.  My family have enjoyed it and been blessed by it time after time.  I still share it with everyone who will listen!"

-Jennifer, mom of 5, CT

"E. is in 4th grade right now and C. is in 1st grade.  I love being able to use Epi Kardia with both of them!  (And we'll be adding L. in kindergarten next year.)  What a blessing this curriculum has been and continues to be for us!  Thanks Dana and Beth!"

--Julie, mom of 5, SC

"I have 4 children and we are using all 4 levels of the program. Just another reason why I love this program! It is flexible enought for me to do just what want with it! :-) "

 --Pam, mom of 4, SC

"The kids and I just finished playing a '20th Century Trivia' board game that A. made after I saw it in the [Preparatory Complete Program] Epi Kardia curriculum. What a great idea! He had to come up with the idea, use history & geography to come up with the categories and then the questions, make the board, paint the board and then make up the rules. It was a great 2-week project!"

--Vicki, mom of 2, SC
